   Biography
Djambi

Djambi
formed - 1995
(Brazil)

1995 the musical group DJAMBI was born, and with a cry of freedom they determined among themselves to take their 'Positive Message' as far as they possibly could.

With a spirit in mind and in their bodies, DJAMBI worked extremely hard and in 1996 they took their own distinctive style of Brazilian influenced reggae on the road. During this initial foray out into the world they interested enough people to gain valuable stage work by playing in such places as Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and other cities around Brazil.

In 1997, with the gracious grant from the Brazilian Law of Incentive to the Arts Council, DJAMBI produced their first CD titled 'Vai Ser Isso. DJAMBI also built their own recording studio during this period where the album was finished. This album featured such illuminaries from the music business as Amlak Tafari, from Pato Banton's Reggae Revolution band among others.

Following the high interest from their fans, they released 'Vai Ser Isso' independently to much acclaim early in 1998. DJAMBI also finalized their touring lineup with the addition of the brilliant Brazilian percussionist CLAUDIO PEPPE and the talented De Silva brothers' Gibi and Neno on Backing Vocals.

DJAMBI met Bob Marley and the Wailers legendary vocalist and guitarist JUNIOR MARVIN during this period. Junior, who was the leader of the Wailers for the sixteen years following Bob Marley's untimely passing saw the talent in the band and asked for DJAMBI to act as his backing band for several shows that were arranged in Brazil.

DjambiFollowing the completion of those shows, Junior Marvin was impressed enough with DJAMBI to ask them to accompany him on his upcoming European dates, playing in such countries as Switzerland, Holland, and Belgium where 6000 people turned out to see Junior and his new band DJAMBI.

Returning to Switzerland following the completion of the European dates, DJAMBI met the extraordinary owner of Shanti Sound Recorders in the picturesque village of Iseltwald, high up in the Swiss Alps. The owner of the studio, Shanti saw the talent in DJAMBI and offered to produce their new album there and then.

Working day and night they finished the new album and returned to Brazil, to prepare for the JUNIOR MARVIN and DJAMBI tour of Brazil. DJAMBI then begin their first exhausting World Tour on their own, starting early in 2000.

The sound of DJAMBI crosses many frontiers, and has many mountains to climb, many rivers to cross. They continued to gain valuable experience touring with one of the world's most famous reggae stars, and have proven themselves so that they are now performing their own distinctive style of original music worldwide!
